Happy birthday, Canada!

Unfortunately we weren’t able to be part of the Canada Day at Canada Place parade as planned, but we still celebrated Canada Day the best way… with each other!

Big thank you to my mom, my sister, and Wendy for enduring probably one of the hottest days of the year so far and blowing bubbles and selling bubble blowers at the Squamish Canada Day Community Celebration.

Thank you to the Squamish committee for having them be part of your Canada Day celebration!

Happy birthday, Canada!

Walk Now for Autism Speaks 2013

Today we walked with hundreds for the 6th Annual Vancouver Walk Now for Autism Speaks Canada at Stanley Park, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

And of course, we blew bubbles!

We had a booth at the resource fair where we shared our lives and experiences as people who loved someone with autism and sold our bubble blowers by donation with partial proceeds benefiting the event.

We’d like to thank everyone who donated to Team Bubbles Make Him Smile for this fundraising event. Your contribution and continued support are always appreciated!

Until next year folks...!

PS Big shout out and thank you to Autism Speaks Event Coordinator, Anya Walsh, for having us at the event!

First Ever Bikers For Autism Festival

Today marked the first ever Bikers For Autism (BFA) Festival, presented by Barnes Harley Davidson, as a kick-off to Bikers For Autism’s two-week charity ride to California. We had the honour of being part of it!

Bikers For Autism started as a passionate father and son team (John and James Baker) that strive to make a difference in the lives of children, adults, and families across Canada affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Inspired by a close family member’s journey to raise their six-year old son diagnosed with autism and driven by the chance to fulfill a life long dream of riding across the country on Harleys, Bikers For Autism set out on a 43 day mission in 2012 to spread their message of awareness across an entire country. Backed by the support of Autism Speaks Canada, Barnes Harley Davidson, Lords Of Gastown, Music Heals, and Red Truck Brewery, these two Bikers were able to make a far bigger impact then they ever thought possible.

Extremely huge thanks to James Baker, founder of Bikers for Autism, for having us at his event. We blew bubbles and sold our bubble blowers with partial proceeds benefiting Bikers for Autism and we were very happy to be a part of James journey!

Festivities for today’s event included incredible bands, pig-roast, skateboarding demo, on-site vendors, silent auction, tattoo parlour, barber shop, children’s games and entertainment, face painting, bike detailing, special appearances by Darth Vader of the 501st Legion, Andrew the Crazy Canuck and Kyle Banta, along with representation and full resources from several local autism service providers and children’s charities. Proceeds raised from the event went towards making a difference in the lives of children, adults and families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder in British Columbia.

We’d like to give a huge shout out and thank you to our two friends, Andrew the Crazy Canuck and Kyle Banta, for their continued support and helping us blow bubbles for everyone.

We’d also like to thank Sandra and her son, Justin of Jr Media Group - Justin Ruscheinski Photography, for their support as well and beautiful hearts promoting autism awareness, oh and blowing bubbles with us, too!

We had a blast blowing bubbles for everyone and hope everyone enjoyed our bubbles!

Have a great Marpole Day!

Today we teamed up with Choices Markets, Western Canada’s largest retailer of natural and organic food, and blew bubbles and sold our bubble blowers at their booth at Connecting Marpole Day to help raise autism awareness and funds for Autism Speaks Canada.

Choices Markets partnered up with Autism Speaks Canada and hosted a 12 day “Autism Speaks Puzzle Piece Campaign” in its Greater Vancouver Area stores to raise funds for Autism Speaks Canada. During the campaign, customers could purchase Autism Speaks Canada puzzle pieces in-store at the checkout for $1.00, with all proceeds benefiting the 6th Annual Vancouver Walk Now for Autism Speaks fundraising and awareness event, which takes place on September 29th, 2013 at Stanley Park.

To help raise additional funds, Choices Markets hosted a series of barbeques today at their Vancouver and Kelowna locations, with the exception of their Kerrisdale location, which participated at Connecting Marpole Day in lieu of the barbeque.

Connecting Marpole Day celebrates multicultural, intergenerational, and artistic diversity in the community.

Local musicians and entertainers performed throughout the day and their were some activities for kids, and of course, bubbles!

We’d like to thank Marpole Place Neighbourhood for inviting us into their community! We’d also like to thank Choices Markets for having us and letting us blow bubbles and sell our bubble blowers to promote autism awareness!

We sold out of our bubble blowers in 2 hours!

Today we blew bubbles and sold our bubble blowers at Sapperton Day Street Festival!

The Sapperton Day Street Festival is a non-profit community event put together by the Sapperton Business Association with some help from both the McBride Sapperton Business Association and Wesgroup Properties. This year was the the events 11th consecutive year after returning from a short hiatus. Sapperton Days has been around since the early 1970’s.

This was our first year participating at Sapperton Day Street Festival where we were blowing bubbles and selling our bubble blowers! Partial proceeds of our bubble blower sales benefited the Royal Columbian Hospital for critically needed equipment, research, and innovation to ensure the best medical standards for the future.

We sold out 2 hours into the event which brought in $135 dollars to the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation! Oh, and if you left your name and number with us to get a bubble blower from our next order, partial proceeds from those sales will go to the RCH foundation too! Thank you everyone for your support!

Meanwhile, Daniel and Bryce were at the 6th Annual Vancouver Walk Now for Autism Speaks Kick Off event at Playland blowing bubbles and showing their support. However, the rain prevented them from going on any rides, so they were given one-day passes to go another day.

We’d like to thank our friends, Allie and Gilles, for helping us out today! Our booth was always busy and we couldn’t of done it without you guys! So thanks so much!

We’d also like to thank the Sapperton Day Street Festival and Sapperton community for welcoming us! We had a great time participating at this event and already looking forward to next year!

Andrew the Crazy Canuck and Kyle the Canuck Piper

Meet our new friends Andrew the Crazy Canuck and Kyle the Canuck Piper!

Andrew the Crazy Canuck is, well, for lack of a better word, crazy... crazy-awesome that is! Kyle the Canuck Piper is an award-winning bagpiper, kilt and all! The duo are big-hearted local celebrities and crowd pleasing entertainers participating in tons of charities, parades, events, and of course, are hardcore Vancouver Canuck fans! (Go Canucks Go!)

We briefly met the pair at the Canucks Autism Network Family Festival while we were blowing bubbles for everyone.

Andrew contacted us yesterday to get a couple of our bubble blowers to bring with him to entertain the crowd at game 2 of the Vancouver Canucks versus San Jose Sharks Stanley Cup Playoffs home game. Andrew and Kyle blew bubbles and even shared our story with everyone! We are so honoured!

Here’s some pictures of Andrew doing his signature pose with our bubble blowers! (Photographed by Gerry Kahrmann)

We’d like to thank Andrew and Kyle for sharing our story and helping us promote autism awareness (and smiles!) Thank you Andrew and Kyle! Seriously! Thank you! We’d love to work with you two brilliant and beautiful people in the near future!

Making Children Smile

As I mentioned before, every April we’ve done something to raise awareness for autism in Bryce’s school. This year I thought of having a colouring contest where students voluntarily colour our autism awareness ribbon prinout and enter there name in a draw to win 1 of 12 of our bubble blowers!

Bryce’s school had an assembly today and it started off with drawing names of the bubble blower winners! The gym filled with children cheering and clapping as each persons name was drawn.

I’d like to thank the principal for all her support and to the staff and teachers who helped bring a little autism awareness to their classrooms.

What better way to end National Autism Awareness month than by making children smile!
