As a mother, I will never give up on my child. As a mother of a child who has autism, I will never give up hope.
I look into his eyes and I see all the potential that he has to offer to this beautiful world and I just know that one day the world can see what I see.

Dear John,

Tonight we watched the movie Dear John. It’s the first movie I’ve seen in a long time with heart and reality in it. I think the last movie that made me feel this way was The Notebook. Not surprisingly ‘The Notebook’ and ‘Dear John’ were written by the same author. It’s very rare that you can find a movie with pieces depicting real life, what many people live with, but nobody really shows in the film industry. While the movie previews and trailers make you think it’s a love story with the romantic letters back and forth, we all know what Dear John truly means. However, the storyline is so much more than that.

Without giving too much away (incase you haven’t seen it) I will say that I loved how autism was brought into some characters and how the reality of the costs relating to autism and to ‘make dreams come true’ was exposed. I also loved how some of the characteristics of autism were expressed, and even how people were accepting of autism, curious even, and starting up a conversation rather than just hiding away.

I personally enjoyed the ‘side’ storyline more than the main storyline, but all together it was a really sweet story.

Dear John

Speaking of movies, a friend sold a bunch of movies to clean out his closet and he generously donated 25% of the proceeds to the Bubbles Make Him Smile Therapy Fund. Thanks so much!

Thanks for reading,
Tanaya
